Waiting for the Fair & Virtual Vacations

Raising a pig for the Fair
Little Marvin

As the count down to our county fair continues (we are into the single digit numbers now. The house has been in a flurry of crafting, baking and trying on last year’s fair show clothes. Kids grow so fast. New pants and shoes? Maybe if we tuck them into boots they won’t look so short- and then the boots- their feet grow as well!  The pig-worries escalate- will Marvin make the cut? Is she 230? We checked our friends’ fair pigs for comparison, which is virtually impossible for me as they really need to be side by side.

And so, we carry on, and I sneak off to escape. Facebook doesn’t hold my attention, nor Twitter, even Pinterest..I need a real escape. I recognize the cabin-fever, the hesitating besides rows of back packs on the wall.

Virtual vacation perhaps? So I might be home in time to feed the family, two legged and four? An article on Huffpost sent me to Castle Bran, another Google earth  virtual tour, this one inside the infamous castle of Count Dracula in Romania. But alas, it only made the cabin fever worse.

I’ve been thinking of Ioannina as of late- mainland Greece, doing research for an article on the little university town nestled in the mountains. I even did a Google earth quick visit to see how it changed, and then I took a right turn onto YouTube and discovered this little gem: a video tour of Epirus- Ioannina included. No talking, just awesome Greek music- I even know these songs!

Check out Robert Polasek’s     video tour of Rhodes too- I’ve been to that island a couple of times, but obviously only scratched the surface. Want to go back now! You can use it as a visual guidebook to prep for your next visit. Can’t wait to see what else he creates this year!
