Celebrating the 32nd Light Up Ocala Festival
Thousands of local residents and visitors alike descended upon downtown Ocala this Saturday night to celebrate the 32nd Light Up Ocala Downtown Festival. City officials were on hand to switch on the festive Christmas Tree in the Square and the millions of sparkling fairy lights draped over the trees.
We were there, along with the other estimated 20,000 visitors, undeterred by the earlier rain storm to witness the night’s illuminations. State Road 40 (Silver Springs Boulevard) was blocked off during the event, which stretched from Citizens Circle to the Marion Theater and across 40, where a Grinch celebration was taking place in their makeshift Whoville. There were inflatable slides, bounce houses and fog even poured out of an inflatable laser tag game. The city of Ocala also set up their annual skating rink, which will remain open throughout the holidays ($5 skating).
Live music and performances took place on the various stages set up in the downtown square and all the corners of the Light Up Ocala event But even if you missed Light Up Ocala 2015, don’t worry, the lights on the square will remain lit throughout the Christmas season for all to enjoy.
